Our Educational Program
Our Educational is underpinned by the Victorian Early Learning and Devleopment Frameworks, our Philosophy and Christian Principles.
At Camberwell Baptist Church Kindergarten, we believe children are capable, curious and active participants in their own learning. Our educational program provides children with opportunities to wonder, explore, create, question, discover and build meaningful relationships in a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment. Our program is guided by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF) and is grounded in the belief that children learn through relationships, play, connection and hands-on experiences.
Play is at the heart of our kindergarten, where curiosity comes alive and children are encouraged to discover, explore and grow.
We believe children learn best when they are engaged in experiences that spark their imagination and make learning joyful. Through play, children develop confidence, independence and resilience, while learning to communicate, solve problems, build friendships and make sense of the world around them.
Our engaging playspaces give children the freedom to follow their interests, share their ideas and explore new possibilities. From creating and building to imaginative play, investigating nature, exploring numbers and patterns or sharing stories with friends, every experience is an opportunity to learn.
Our caring educators take the time to understand each child — their interests, strengths and emerging skills.
Our hope is for each child develop a genuine love of learning and a strong sense of belonging.
We see each child as an individual — with their own personality, story, interests, strengths and unique way of learning.
We take the time to truly get to know each child: what makes them curious, what brings them joy, what they are proud of and where they may need a little extra encouragement. From the moment they join our kindergarten, we want every child to feel seen, heard, valued and accepted for who they are.
Our program is flexible and responsive, allowing children to learn at their own pace while gently encouraging them to try new things, take on challenges and discover what they can achieve.
We nurture the whole child — supporting their social, emotional, physical, cognitive, creative and spiritual development — while helping them build confidence, independence, resilience and meaningful relationships.
Because every child has something special to offer, and we want each child to know that they belong.
We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Kulin Nation, the Traditional Owners of the land on which our kindergarten community plays, learns and grows. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and recognise the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country, culture, community and family. We value the diverse cultures, identities, experiences and perspectives that children and families bring to our community. We strive to create an environment where everyone feels welcomed, respected, included and a sense of belonging. We nurture kindness, empathy, respect, responsibility and care for others and our environment.
We believe children thrive when families and educators work together.Families bring valuable knowledge and understanding of their children, and we welcome their ideas, experiences, interests, skills and perspectives. We encourage families to share their culture, traditions, experiences and interests and to contribute to our kindergarten program in ways that are meaningful to them.Through genuine partnerships between children, families and educators, we develop a deeper understanding of each child and create continuity between their experiences at home and kindergarten.
We see the whole kindergarten environment as a place for learning. Our indoor and outdoor spaces are thoughtfully designed to encourage exploration, creativity, movement, imagination and collaboration. Children have opportunities to engage with nature, investigate materials, develop physical skills, express their ideas and work alongside others. Our program balances child-led play with intentional teaching. Teachers extend children's learning through meaningful conversations, thoughtful questions, demonstrations, stories and shared investigations. We encourage children to wonder, think deeply, have a go, make mistakes, try again and celebrate their discoveries.Children are supported to develop a love of learning and the confidence to approach new experiences with curiosity, persistence and enthusiasm.
